EFT - Tapping

EFT - Emotional Freedom Techniques
Rosacea

Rosacea is not fun. Actually that's an understatement; it can be an incredibly painful and frustrating skin problem.
But before you leave the page, please read on.
Whilst not life-threatening, it is something that can cause extreme anguish and hopelessness in those who suffer from it.
It is a skin disorder which can manifest in different ways. There are 4 subtypes:
  • Subtype 1 (erythematotelangiectatic rosacea) - flushing and persistent redness, visible capillaries
  • Subtype 2 (papulopustular rosacea) - persistent redness with painful lumps and spots
  • Subtype 3 (phymatous rosacea) - skin thickening
  • Subtype 4 (ocular rosacea) - dry eye, tearing and burning, swollen eyelids, recurrent styes or chalazions
There can be many different triggers which set off a rosacea flare-up. Some of these might be:
  • getting over-heated during a workout or sun exposure
  • eating gluten
  • drinking alcohol
  • eating chocolate
  • eating/drinking a specific food/drink that you are sensitive to
  • using a heavy or greasy face cream
Then there are the possible links to:
  • demodex mites
  • leaky gut
  • SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth)
OK, so that’s the part that all rosacea sufferers already know, the part that is detailed on every single rosacea self-help page. It’s almost written in stone and it’s almost definitely engraved into your beliefs.
Rosacea becomes part of you.
You and rosacea become one.
And as with many dis-eases, it almost takes over your life.
Why am I so sure? And how dare I make these statements?

Because I was a sufferer. I know exactly how it feels.

I had no intention of showing these photos of myself, as they're definitely not pretty, but I think it's important to show how bad my skin was at times. These are not the worst pictures I have, but I think you get the idea....

Emotions

Emotions play a huge role in rosacea, and this could be one of the reasons why it is so difficult to get rid of, as emotions are rarely, if ever, addressed or taken into consideration. This is where EFT can help, as it addresses underlying emotions and releases them.
I had personally used EFT for many health issues, and found long-lasting relief from chronic back pain and seasonal allergies, amongst other things. Yet for some reason I hadn’t thought to use it on rosacea. Maybe the belief that it was ‘incurable’ stopped me from wasting my time tapping on the problem.
Then one day, after a powerwalk in the hot sun, my face flared up, yet again. I’d sort of been expecting it (limiting belief raising its ugly head), but my heart sank when I looked in the mirror the next morning.
Oh, you’re back…..

But that morning was different. I decided to tap.

I tapped on every single emotion that came up. I think I tapped 4-5 times that day, (trying to be gentle as my face hurt). I didn’t notice any difference in my skin until the next morning. Usually a flare-up would last 3-4 weeks, maybe longer, but that following morning my skin seemed to be calmer.
I tapped on all the limiting beliefs I had about rosacea, and again on all the emotions that arose. By the next day it had disappeared almost completely. Some marks remained, but the swelling, itchiness and pain had gone.

This, for me, was a first.

I have been reluctant to talk about rosacea; there are far too many pages promising cures as it is, but if my testimonial helps you find a solution, then it’s worth it.

Tapping on the negative

When working with clients I often get asked why we have to tap on the negative. Surely harping on about everything you DON’T want is provoking disaster?
As Nick Ortner of 'The Tapping Solution' says, "Rather than thinking of it as ‘the negative’, think about it as ‘the truth’."
I’m a firm believer in the power of positive thinking, but if deep down in our subconscious we are holding onto limiting beliefs, or negative emotions about one thing or another, these beliefs and emotions can wreak havoc on our lives and sabotage our attempts at positive thinking. So they need to be recognized, addressed and released.

Using EFT for rosacea

Here are some initial ‘superficial’ areas to cover and ‘tap’ on.
If you decide to try EFT for rosacea by yourself, write down the following in a journal, with a number of intensity of how true the statements are for you, from 0 (not true) to 10 (100% true).
For example:
  • Painful and unsightly spots that seem to last FOREVER
  • Painful bumps under the skin that just won’t go away
  • Burning, sore skin
  • Hot, red cheeks
  • Maddening itchiness that stops me from sleeping
  • Feeling embarrassed to show my face
  • Feeling ugly
  • Feeling hopeless
  • Why me?
Possible beliefs about rosacea. (Again choose your own beliefs.) For example:
  • The doctors all said it's incurable.
  • There are online support groups for rosacea, so obviously it's hard or impossible to get rid of.
  • I've tried everything and nothing works, so I doubt very much that EFT will work.
  • I have rosacea and unfortunately that's just part of who I am.
  • When I eat/drink bread/chocolate/wine I get a flare-up.
  • When I get overheated it triggers a flare-up.
  • Everyone knows that rosacea is hard to treat.
  • I’ve got this for life, so I may as well just accept it.
  • There’s nothing I can do to be free from this.
  • Rosacea runs in my family so there's nothing I can do about it.
The emotions that you feel with rosacea.
Again, write them down in a journal, with a number of intensity of how intense the statements are for you, from 0 (no intensity) to 10 (maximum intensity).
For example:
  • Sadness
  • Anger
  • Shame
  • Embarrassment
  • Guilt
  • Hopelessness
  • Powerlessness
  • Overwhelm
  • Feeling depressed
  • Feeling unwanted
Then you can go deeper. This can be where the roots of the problem reside.
  • When did the rosacea start and what was happening in your life at that time?
  • What emotions do you feel NOW when you think back to that time?
If you can’t remember any specific event, take a shot and GUESS what emotion might be linked to your rosacea. (Our subconscious is pretty powerful and ‘guessing’ might offer insight.)

After doing several rounds of tapping on the negative, add some positive phrases such as:
  • “It’s safe for me to let go of this rosacea.”
  • “It’s safe for me to have clear skin.”
  • "It's safe for me to be noticed."
  • “It’s ok for me to have nice skin.”
  • “It’s ok for me to love myself.”
  • “I’m allowed to be rosacea-free.”
  • “I’m allowed to look nice.”
If you are struggling, don’t give up. It doesn’t mean it’s not working. It’s not always easy to work on oneself, especially when you are just a ‘beginner’ at tapping.
Consider working with me one-to-one to at least take the edge off of the problem, or join one of my Private Tapping Groups. Then, with a little practice you will be able to tap alone successfully!

Whichever direction you choose, give EFT a chance. It really might help.
I'm rooting for you! xox
