The EAR (estimated Average Requirement) is the average daily dietary requirement for healthy individuals. It is calculated as 0.5-0.6g protein for each kg of body of weight.
The RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance) is the daily dietary requirement for 98% of healthy individuals. It is calculated as 0.8g protein for each kg body of weight or 0.36g protein/pound body weight.
It looks something like this: 58kg / 128 pound woman or man = 48g protein/day 70kg / 154 pound woman or man = 56g protein/day If you are sick, recovering from surgery, or exerting your body through exercise, you may need more. This handy calculator can work out your needs.
