Healthy & Wholesome ways to start the day

Apple, Oats & Almond Butter

This recipe was inspired by Mimi Kirk & Mia Kirk White's 'Apple Sunrise' from their wonderful book Raw-Vitalize.
I love their idea of mixing chopped apple with almond butter. Not only does it add taste and texture, you are also getting added protein which will keep you feeling satisfied for longer. If you haven't got almond butter, you could try cashew butter. Peanut butter would be too overpowering.
Ingredients:
  • 1 apple, chopped into small pieces
  • 1/3 cup rolled oats (gluten-free if necessary)
  • 1 tablespoon raw almond butter
  • 1 tablespoon sunflower seeds, preferably soaked, rinsed & drained beforehand
  • a couple of walnut halves, broken into pieces
  • 1 tablespoon flax seeds
  • 1 cup hemp milk
  • cinnamon

Mix the almond butter with the chopped up apple and rolled oats
  1. Chop up the apple into small pieces and put it into a bowl with the almond butter.
  2. Mix it up well so that all the apple is covered.
  3. Add the oats, walnuts, sunflower seeds and cinnamon.
  4. Mix together.
  5. Now you can either transfer the apple & oats mixture to a clean bowl or leave it where it is.
  6. ​Add the milk, top with the flax seeds and serve!
If you are coming from a high-sugar diet and you feel the need to make it sweeter, add a teaspoon of maple syrup over the top.
